As I looked at everything that was strewn across my living room floor after raiding my stash, I was getting ready to start putting things away when I had my eureka moment (so sometimes being disorganized can have it's advantages!).
I had the perfect fall vignette in mind for our entryway and it started with some simple hoops. I first saw these oval embroidery hoops I had collected years ago from a thrift store and hadn't done anything with so I knew I wanted to use them. Once that was established, I had to figure out what was going to be stretched out onto them and at that point saw from the corner of my eye the box of sewing pattern paper that I had found at a church bazaar.
Now what to do for a pumpkin stem? My first idea was to use a wooden spool, but it did not fit well over the metal screw top of the hoop. Then I spied some coin wrappers and gave them a try.
I used the 25 cent rolls because they were the largest and had orange stripes on them. When I flattened one out and then crumpled it together, it fit perfectly over the metal part of embroidery hoop. I then added some raffia to the top for textural interest and I was done!
I made quite a few and used them in our entryway as a Fall vignette.
I filled the worn wooden scoop with some faux leaves and real acorn tops that I had collected a few years back.
I thought that since the patterned sewing paper was semi-transparent that it would be interesting to see them lit up with some mini Xmas lights and am really pleased with the results!
I had so much fun putting things together for this entryway vignette, looking for all the elements to use and arranging them just so. I love how the orange hand-painted checkerboard that I picked up at an estate sale fits so well into the mix. And I think the thrift store washboard for $1 is the perfect piece to showcase my Junkin Pumpkins.
