DIY Home Address Plaque

Time again for another Silhouette Challenge and this month the theme is Outdoors and Green… well let's see what I came up with this time...

I started off with a cute but small chalkboard from the thrift store.. It was okay… but I wanted to put my  stamp of PATINA on it…

Here is what you will need...

• Silhouette Cameo
• adhesive shelf lining paper
• paint of your choice
• black and white paint to imitate chalkboard and chalk
• stencil brush or makeup wedge sponge

Steps

Here are the steps that I used to get the final sign…

1.) Clean your piece well before painting.
2.) Paint chalkboard area with black acrylic or chalkboard paint.
3.) Determine the size and fonts that you will use in your Silhouette program.
4.) Use your Silhouette to cut out the vinyl (I used adhesive shelf liner) and remove the numbers and individual letters. Use a clear adhesive transfer paper or transparent shelf liner to transfer the left over stencil onto your piece.
5.) Once  your "stencil" is in place, carefully remove transparent paper.
6.) Now you are ready to paint your "chalkboard" lettering using a makeup wedge sponge or a stencil brush. You may want to wait until it is dry to remove the stencil carefully so as not to smudge the freshly painted areas.

When I removed the stencil and saw the finished plaque, I found that the white daisies were making it a little too busy and detracting from the address. And since I wanted the white address to stand out, I painted the flowers black. I also added some black to the edges and a little bit more of a vibrant green to make it more interesting.

I love how it looks on my friend's porch! 

I was just using it as an example and wanted to use her home as the backdrop to photograph it and she fell in love with it. It looks as though it was meant for the space. I didn't even remember that the frame of her porch door was painted black.

The bottom of the little chalkboard has a little edge that you can add a little basket to fill with flowers or whatever you would like. I will repost as soon as I get the opportunity to go back to see my friend.

"ESPOIR" is French for HOPE. Hope I have inspired you to rethink something thrifted and repurpose it into a cute Address Sign for your home!
