Coastal Accent Table With Metallic Shimmer

Coastal Accent Table With Metallic Shimmer
I was so happy to be able to participate in this month's Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest and I am thrilled to share with you my latest furniture flip. The theme for this month's challenge is "Bling Bling"...
I was not exactly sure what I was going to do with metallic cream but in the end found this sweet tilt top table at a yard sale and thought it would be perfect for giving it a try...

This month's contest is being sponsored by COUNTRY CHIC Paint All participants including myself were given a free quart of paint and a free quart of their COUNTRY CHIC Metallic Cream.
*Disclaimer:  I received 1 quart of their paint  and another of their metallic cream for use in this challenge. All opinions 100 %  my own.

I ended up choosing one of their limited time Spring colors called "Ocean Breeze" and went with Trigger as the metallic accent. I love the fresh and pretty graphics of their packaging, don't you! On top of having great instructions on how to use the paint, we were also given a complimentary paint brush for using with their paint.

You can get a better idea of the colors I chose as they are the ones above with the "X".  The plan was to go for a drama... but it turns out there was just a little too much contrast between my two color choices for my liking. This meant I had to come up with plan "B" and see what I could do...

"Ocean Breeze" is just as lovely as it sounds. A gorgeous vibrant yet classy shade of coastal blue. I put on 2 coats and was really impressed with the self-leveling properties of the paint ... there were barely any noticeable brush strokes once it dried. And with a light sanding using 220 grit sandpaper the piece was as smooth as butter!

I was wondering what I could do to add interest to this little tilt top table. And the color really shouted "coastal" to me so I tried to come up with a coastal design to add to the top. And if you know me, you can bet that I brought out my Silhouette Vinyl Cutter to realize my vision...

I used shelf lining paper to cut out the stencil for the larger coral shape and adhered it to the table top.

The plan was to use trigger to fill in the shape and leave it at that, but while in my craft room I spotted some glitter that had fallen out of my glitter cupboard. This got my wheels turning and I checked my stash to see what was available. I happened to find some "Martha Stewart" super fine glitter in several shades of gold and thought that would give the table some extra bling.

I then did the same with the coral in the foreground and used some leftover copper paint and a warm gold glitter on top. It was really hard to capture the shimmer of the glitter on camera...

You get a better idea from this angle shot. It was even better than I had imagined in my original plan! Did I mention this cute little table had a tilt mechanism to make it tilt down, now it reminds me of a canvas on an easel.

I used the metallic "Trigger" to add some more interest to the legs and accentuate all of the lovely curves and detail by highlighting all of the edges with a thin line of it.

To be honest, the "Bling" theme had me sweating a little cause metallic and shiny are not my style, but this little piece told me how it wanted to be painted and I couldn't be happier that I listened!

Before and after shots side by side so you can see the difference...  from drab to fab don't you think!

Hope I have inspired you to get creative with your furniture flips!

  1. Lucy, really enjoyed seeing the transformation. Loved the detailing. How exactly did you do the highlighting of the lines and curves?

    1. Glad you like it Dottie, I used the side of the brush with very little paint on it and very carefully dragged it across the edges wiping off any excess immediately. It would probably be easier to use a paint marker as it would give the same width all of the time and it would be more accurate.
