Coastal Light Fixture With Faux Verdigris

I love coastal decor and when I was given the opportunity to use Modern Masters verdigris finish I was excited to figure out what project to use it on. I had picked up this plain fixture at the flea market and knew that a little verdigris finish would help give it that beach house look...

This is what I used to change an ordinary outdated light fixture into something more coastal...

1. light fixture base
2. quart sized large mouth mason jars with lids
3. sea shell necklaces
4. binder clips

I removed the glass shades from the original light fixture.

And had my husband cut a circular hole that would allow the mason jar to fit over the the light sockets.

This was my second project using Modern Masters Metal Effects. I taped off the area that was going to be painted with the faux verdigris to protect the chemical agent from getting onto any other areas.   The first step in the process was to paint the area I wanted to be verdigris with a special primer which came with the kit. The next step was to apply two coats of copper paint.The first coat was to be left to dry for half an hour... and the second coat was applied and then while still wet to be immediately activated with the patina activating solution. (Make sure to use gloves when spraying or working with the activator and make sure to have good ventilation or fresh air to do it in!)(*I was given Modern Masters Metal Effects Green Patina product kit in exchange for a blog post but all opinions are my own.)

Here it is once the activator was added.  I used paper plates to catch the drips. Using different application methods gives you different results. I mostly used the sprayer applicator. It was really magical to see the results show up after only a few seconds.

Isn't that verdigris finish amazing! The plan was to use aqua colored mason jars but then after some searching and ordering I came to realize that the large mouth quart sized jars didn't come in this color and that the product that I wanted to use to tint them was no longer available. So I decided the clear ones would work.

The sea shells were originally going to be painted with the finish but then I decided that they no longer looked like sea shells and went with the natural finish. The binder clips allow for the fixture to be left simpler and the sea shells taken out.

I love how it looks with the verdigris , even if it is on just a few parts of the fixture.

It would look great outside on a patio also with candles or with old fashioned bulbs...

.... of a lake house.
