This piece was what I chose to refresh… a pedestal table that I had bought for $5 at an Antique Mall where I had once had a booth. it wasn't the best made table, but for 5 bucks, I figured I could work with it. The top was very bowed in the middle and so I had begun by adding a few layers of homemade gesso to the top in the hopes of making it more level. I then painted the whole thing in "Blackberry House" baked bread (white). It had sat like this for more than a year so now it was time to finally finish it.
So I began my attempt at a weathered finish with a coat of a medium grey chalk paint (Waverly) from Walmart and then mixed some lighter shades of grey and dry brushed them on in one direction.
It needed some warming up so I brushed on some Valspar Antiquing glaze and wiped off the excess. But then a lot of the contrast was gone and it needed something else...
When I think of weathered wood, I envision a silver sheen on it, so I figured I would try to achieve this by using some leftover silver glaze. I brushed it on in the same direction as my other lines, trying to vary the width for interest.
It's hard to photograph the finish with the light on it, but you can see it a little better in this shot. I was finally happy with the way that it turned out and gathered a few items to accessorize it with. If you like the jar with the feathers you can find the tutorial HERE.
I love how the red and white look on the silvery grey finish of the table. This is my favourite colour palette for Christmas decorating. The table will be going to my booth to hopefully find a new home… but not until I use it as the backdrop for some Christmas projects and vignettes. ;o)
Blessings,
Lucy
